The Fulton Market office developments just keep coming

In a 2017 Curbed Chicago article, IBT Group's Gary Pachucki discussed the evolution of their Fulton Market development project at 1200 W. Fulton. Initially conceived during the Amazon HQ2 bidding frenzy, the original plan was a massive 1.2 million-square-foot mixed-use complex. However, in response to market dynamics, the design was scaled back to a more focused and manageable 600,000-square-foot development.

The revised project, named "Axis West at Fulton Market," features two towers, one 300 feet and the other 240 feet tall, offering a combined 600,000 square feet of office space, 100,000 square feet of retail, two public plazas, and parking for 335 cars. Designed by CallisonRTKL and developed in partnership with Ryan Companies, the project aims to break ground in the following year, pending zoning approval. Despite the competitive market, industry experts believe the neighborhood has the momentum to absorb such developments, reflecting Fulton Market's transformation from a historic meatpacking district to a vibrant mixed-use hub.
