In the early 2000s, Valparaiso became a major retail hub for Northwest Indiana market with the addition of Target, Hope Depot, Menard’s, Pier 1, and Barnes & Noble. The expansive trade area extends over 10 miles and serves over 100,000 people. In 2004, IBT capitalized on this growth by bringing national retailers such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, and Michael's to Valparaiso Walk, which is located on the corner of State Route 49 and LaPorte Avenue.
